Gail McGarva has a background in Theatre in Education, working previously as an actor and workshop leader for Travelling Light Theatre Company in Bristol. Gail integrates her work as a boatbuilder with her work as a performer and facilitator, bringing to life the stories all boats have to tell about their communities and their shores.
The stories and memories are celebrated and shared through Gail’s work as facilitator of workshops, speaker and teller of stories.

'All boats have a story to tell' is an audio celebration of the stories of traditional working boats: the craft of the people who build, their communities and their shores. Sadly, many of the working boats along the coastline of Britain are under threat. The stories and memories they hold are being lost as the generations pass. These audio portraits are a celebration of the working boats and their special place in our maritime heritage. All available on Gail's SoundCloud page.
'Disappearing Lines'
An evocative installation curated by Gail, the Exhibition captures the disappearing lines of traditional wooden boats, their communities and their shores. Visitors to the exhibition will be immersed in a disappearing world of images, voices and memory objects of the sea.
Workshops bring to life the craft of traditional boat building and the stories of endangered boats. Participants create their own 'ghost ship' of steam-bent oak.
